Once we arrived in Cairo, we hailed a Taxi to our hotel and explored the neighborhood. Our hotel, May Fair Hotel, was located in Zamalik (an island on the Nile in the heart of Cairo). Everything in Egypt is dirt cheap!! Our hotel room, fully equipped with three twin beds, cost a whopping $6 a night! And our 40 minute taxi ride cost a total of $10... What a deal! This is a picture of the balcony of our hotel. The sunsets were amazing!
After checking into our hotel, we wandered around the island and found ourselves on a river boat restaurant, Alsaraya. Here we had our first taste of the Egyptian cuisine! And for dessert... grape and coke flavored Shisha! Then back to the hotel to get a restful nights sleep.
